Who else uses LimeWire? I know its like "illegal" or whatever, but its so well known that if it was so illegal that you'd think they would have shut it down by now.

i use limewire!!! i think its awesome!!!
and it is considered illegal 2 download music without paying for it, but u realli only get in trouble or get arrested for downloading if u use limewire 2 like, download a million songs and make copies and put them on CD's and use them for ur own profit...but any average person who downloads music from there, and just puts it on their mps player, then theres usually no penalty

go for bearshare, much faster, more results. Limewire closes down and freezes when u play maplestory anyways

LimeWire is part of a fairly good network (called Gnutella), but isn't a very good client of (ie program which uses) that network. It's quite heavy on the system, and sucks up a good deal of resources.
Better clients of the Gnutella network are, for example, FrostWire or Shareaza.
But really I don't like any Gnutella client much.
My choice would be a combination of Torrent clients (like uTorrent) for big files such as movies of videogames, and SoulSeek (which uses its own network) for music.

Anyway, peformance of p2p clients is in direct relashionship with the details of the type of connection you have: Type of DSL, router configuration (if router is accessible by user, which not always is, eg. NAT ADSLs), QoS filters imposed by ISP... etc etc...
So each person should find his/her own balance. One client/network could work fine with an user, but be completely inefficient for another. In essence, there isn't one universal p2p client/network of choice, rather there is one or two that work well for that particular person.

The problems your having don't have to do with Limewire it has to do with your computer.
You may have downloaded the wrong version for the wrong PC or something.

But yeah, besides heavy resource consumption, the problems of the missing files expressed by Sai probably has to do with a wrong installation procedure...
Although one could object that a good program is also written in a way so that a wrong installation cannot occur.

Limewire stopped working for me. I downloaded a massive amount of songs to my iTunes, then uploaded my songs.

I've downloaded around 15,000 Songs and Videos.
I've downloaded Photoshop and a Video Game Making Program.

Rule #1 is Never under in circumstances download an EXE file, that is almost 100% a virus.

Rule #2 never download a wma file when downloading music, they are screwed up

Limewire is illegal, if you're got with it by the cops you might be arrested.

Heh, like I said, Limewire and Frostwire are both part of the same Gnutella network, so basically they find and share the same files. Frostwire is less heavy on the system and takes less CPU resources. This may be the cause of it being faster, but, again, it's all a game of balances between connection type, client and network.

Yes, it's true, they cannot access your HD. But they can download from you using Limewire themselves, log your IP during the download (effectively prooving that you're sharing), and once they matched your IP with a name they have enough proof to get a search warrant. After that they can actually get in your house. Remember CSI? "We can't enter, until we get a warrant". Once they have a warrant from a judge (and that implies mostly just a phone call) they can do everything.

yeah u can get caught, limewire is pirating. If you download something from limewire and sell it commercially thats illegal. Pirating is illegal, if the company finds out you'll get fined. Selling Pirated movies can get you charged ex. www.tv-links.co.uk, the maker got charged and sent to jail.

Is is true that Limewire has a virus? Because my friend works with computers and he was telling me the other day that you get the virus automatically after you download it.

lol limewire doesn't have any virus. Maybe he downloaded something with a virus or he probably downloaded the limewire from someone else which has virus in it.
