I think Sasuke will have a choice or something when the final showdown between Pain(Akatsuki Leader) and Naruto, either to chase after Itachi or help Naruto. And he'll choose to help Naruto.

in the recent manga where pain is seen on the roof top and deidira has just killed him self. pein and his team mate and tobi are there talking about how sasuke will eventually surpass itachi which i think will happen and then sasuke will try to defeat akatsuki or tobi tries to lead to work together with their sharingans to take over and they may take itachi in with them but i highly doubt itachi would be apart of it cause he would eventually be the weakeast.

Sasuke could kill Itachi easily...if that wasn't the main plot of his character. Because of that, he never will and Itachi will die in some noble way. Like out of the blue starts protecting Sasuke when he is in over his head.
