Fox News Interpretation of Anonymous (Highly Inaccurate) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UxWgRY1I_SI)

So anyway, a week ago, Anonymous declared war on the Church of Scientology. On one of their websites, ED (which I am not linking to, simply cause I'd get banned for that alone) records their declaration of war:

Anonymous Declaration of War (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JCbKv9yiLiQ)
The Formal Declaration of War

“ RESOLUTION Declaring that a state of war exists between the "Church" of Scientology and the Internet and making provisions to prosecute the same.
Whereas the "Church" of Scientology has committed unprovoked acts of war against the Internet and Society as a whole; and

Whereas, such acts continue to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the security and freedom of the Internet and it's users; and

Whereas, such acts render it both necessary and appropriate that Anonymous exercise its rights to self-defense and to seek out lulz: Therefore be it Resolved by Anonymous in /i/ and /b/ assembled,

That the state of war between the Anonymous and the "Church" of Scientology which has thus been thrust upon the Internet is hereby formally declared; and

That Anonymous is hereby authorized and directed to employ the entire force of Anonymous and the resources of the Internet to prosecute war against the "Church" of Scientology; and

To bring the conflict to a successful termination, all of the resources of Anonymous are hereby pledged.

TIMELINE (According to one of their sites, ED again (Offensive to some)):
1/16/08- PROJECT CHANOLOGY begins.
1/17/08- Scientology.org down. A mirror of this epic event is located at http://epicscientologywar.ytmnd.com/
1/18/08- Slowpoke raiders show up on the scheduled day. Site still down. Also, Cloverfield.
1/19/08- Still pissy, site still down, along with the dianetics hotline (1-800-367-8788) or (01342 318229) if you're a britfag, which have been rickrolled to death.
1/20/08- Site is up and down throughout the day. Media begins to take notice.
1/21/08 - Official declaration of war and message to scientology on Jewtube released. Moar media take notice redirecting additional traffic to scientology.org. The general Internet populace now see Anonymous as the good guys. Splongcat releases secret CoS documents to the Internet. PROJECT CHANOLOGY reaches the tipping point.

Alright, an underground internet hacker group with hundreds upon hundreds of members/followers has declared war on the Church of Scientology. This has resulted in many Scientology websites crashing. The Scientologists tried to retailiate, but that failed miserably. Now Anonymous is planning IRL raids on the church of Scientology.

Church of Science?
Wow....
Um....idk what this means.
Idk what the Church of Science is, it sounds fake to me, Church and Science never mix, I don't think any good or bad can come from this.

well they made a video that they are not a group of hosckers, but just a group of all kinds of people. They want to destroy the Church of Scientology and everything it stands for. Anyway, they are doing a silent protest like, I think on the 10th of febuary, lol. I want to see how it's going to go.:)

The Church of Scientology is a real Church recognized by the US Gov't.
As defined by the site itself, this is what Scientology is about:

"The word Scientology literally means "the study of truth." It comes from the Latin word "scio" meaning "knowing in the fullest sense of the word" and the Greek word "logos" meaning "study of."

Scientology is the study and handling of the spirit in relationship to itself, others and all of life. The religion comprises a body of knowledge extending from certain fundamental truths. Prime among these:

Man is an immortal, spiritual being. His experience extends well beyond a single lifetime. His capabilities are unlimited, even if not presently realized — and those capabilities can be realized. He is able to not only solve his own problems, accomplish his goals and gain lasting happiness, but also achieve new, higher states of awareness and ability.

In Scientology no one is asked to accept anything as belief or on faith. That which is true for you is what you have observed to be true. An individual discovers for himself that Scientology works by personally applying its principles and observing or experiencing results.

Through Scientology, people all over the world are achieving the long-sought goal of true spiritual release and freedom. "

Scientology's purpose is to create a eutopia without insanity (haha, good luck at that. The universes natural tendancy towards entropy (disorder) makes that impossible to achieve), hate, criminals, and other terrible things.
That all sounds good, right? However, this 'religion' is really nothing more then a cult. Read here (http://www.xenu.net/roland-intro.html)

Anyway, today worldwide protests went off. An estimated 200 were said to have gone to Australia protests and about 500 were said to have gone to the protests in LA. While we don't have total numbers, over 2000 people went to protests worldwide.

Not only this, but there's been tons of media coverage.

I dont think that there are really any sane people who are with CoS who actually believe in this crap. The man who founded their beliefs, L. Ron Hubbard, a sciencefiction writer, once said to a friend, the quickest way to make a million dollars is to invent a religion, basically proving the fact that the whole reason he made this crap up was to sap money from mentally ill people. Basically, if those who are with CoS would just take their meds, then they would realize this is a bunch of bull, and see the error of their stupidity for even thinking that this was true. Meds make things alot clearer. I just hope that one day someone comes up with an argument proving once and for all to scientologists that their cult's foundations are based upon complete and utter bull, created by a man who just wanted to make a million dollars.

REVIVING A TOPIC.

So much stuff has happened on this topic since the last post here. Operation: Party Hard (the March 15th protests), were a major success in most cities. However, cases of police abuse in Orlando have come up (recorded on tape) as well as in Clearwater, Flordia. In LA, a man was pressed with charges by the Co$. However, he was released before they even went to court and the case was scrapped. In Atlanta, the friggin RIOT squad was called.

Three times before Operation: Party Hard, the church tried to file an injunction against Anonymous. However, it was denied.

Just this week, tons has happened to support the scientology cause. In Israel, they aired a twenty minute special on scientology which cast it down in a negative light. This was aired on a very popular network. The charges against the person who was protesting were dropped (I already mentioned this, but it was this week), and even FOX news took a moment from one if it's shows to make fun of scientology.

In Philly, the Co$ filed a permit with the city that would allow them to protest. So apparently the church is going to be protesting in front of their own church from 7am to 9pm. When an anonymous member mentioned to the city that a protest had to have more than 75 people and that it's purpose was to attract the people's attention, the city got suspicious. If it turns out there is no protest, the Church may lose all rights to get another protest permit. Also, the Philly anons are protesting the day after the 12th.

All in all, Operation: Reconnect is this weekend and it's going to be epic.

Yeah, but they'll be back on their feet soon. Magoo, I believe, already has a new account.

Other epic news:
- Church in Dusseldorf, Germany completely disappeared for the Operation: Reconnect protests.
- Tons of celebrities who used to be in Scientology are speaking out against it
- Anon have gone to Congress and they seem interested.
- Epic fail for Scientology's 'protest' against drugs in Philly.
- In Norway, a man in a major political position had a daughter that commited suicide after a Scientology personality test.

I thought I should update this. Anon is still protesting monthly and they're pretty successful. They've taught a lot of people about scientology with these protests as well as flash protests in between the large worldwide protests. There have been reports of Fair Game (Scientologists following Anon members to try and get their identity/Scientologists harassing Anonymous members).

Also, Scientology has spent millions of dollars to advertise their 'holy book' of Dianetics (On the Discovery Channel, History Channely, BBC America, MTV, Comedy Central, MSNBC, CNBC, A&E). They've also estimated another million or so spent on a special Scientology YouTube channel.

So it seems that Anonymous is doing very well with these protests. I may attend one someday.

LOL, SCIENTOLOGY. "Tom Cruise won't come out of the closet!......." ||"Now I'm in the closet". But in all seriousness, I laugh at scientology. me and my social studies teacher have a good laugh any time anyone mentions it at school. It is a bunch of BS, and it makes me want to give those people a few free pshchiatry lessons. But the way Anonymous is going at this is a bit wrong too me. I understand his dislike for Scientology. But the declaration of war seems like a way of getting some attention to me.(Yes, I will reference another thread) This guy had to have been bullied by some scientologists....yep....thats it. lol, jk, but....It was probably blown out of proportion by him just for some attention, and publicity.

On the contrary, I think what they're doing is the right way. I mean, they're doing it through completely legal methods, and having fun while doing it. They've actually helped people that used to be Scientologists gain the courage to either leave the organization or just speak about their experiances.

It looks to me that people in general have to much free time on there hands.

Scientology uses brain washing techniques developed in the 70s in their training when you join.
What they do is have you hold hands and stare into the eyes of a member for an hour without blinking, which effectively shuts down the brain, making it suceptable (sp?) to ideas that normally would be null and void due to common sense.
The church of scientology has also been affiliated with numerous murders in the U.S.A in their privately owned building in Las Vegas (murder by definition) when you aren't a good member they keep you confined in this building until you see the light, in cases they have had people die in these buildings from dehydration, the charges however are dropped as a organization cannot be charged with murder.
And as a final, proven fact when you join Scientology you are required to give your kids to the church who then uses them (depending on their need for them and what country etc) as laborers for their hotels around the world (which the wealthy members go to)

This "church" is pure fucking evil and this has little to do with if anyone has free time or not, this has to do with standing up to something that is blatantly wrong and a threat to our security and freedom as humans.

Let me tell you if what you are doing is sitting and enjoying the morning sun while you drink your coffee or lying down and watching the stars in the night while you relax is one of the best things you can do. You should be happy you do those things. I wish i count spent the rest of my life like that. This little things are the ones that make this life worth living.

Lol, I can't believe there's a topic on this so sophisticated! I know a few Anonymous members and they are not good people to get involved with, but I do agree with them on this case... I remember when they were telling me about this declaration and I pushed it aside as a load of crap. I guess it was true o.o

I can't back Anonymous though because there are plenty of other things they have done that I truly hate them for.

I checked out the church of sciencetology is Minneaplois, they made me take a test then they graphed out my strengths and weakness. The question were relatively general, I honstely couldn't take it seriously. Their pamplet stated that Man has the potiential to be even greater than Jesus or at leat equal. They show a picture of a man climbing a mountain, at the bottom are famous philosophers like Plato and Socrates, higher on the mountain is Gandi, then it's Jesus were they show a regular man standing next to him.The main purpose of the church of sciencetology is to better yourself, change the way you think and make your life better. The downside is youhave to buy books and pay to take the classes. Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt are two of the most prominent members.

Woah.
How did I ever miss this thread???? :o Venus probably posted it when I was on one of my "offline" stints. xD

Anyways, all in all, this is one freak organization against the other.
I became aware about Scientology approximately 1 and half years ago, after watching a documentary on BBC. Then I did some more research on this organization and its pretty much "evil" put simply. Some instances have already been mentioned in this thread.
The biggest thing wrong with this organization is its extremely secretive nature and the fact that they are so defensive about media probes only enhances suspicion. These are not signs of a good organization. Plus, the tid-bits that do manage to leak out are not positive at all. And the fact that we have so many people campaigning against it, speaks volumes itself.
Not allowing people to go to shrinks, not allowing them to take medicines.. not allowing members to speak much about their organization.. the list goes on. Plus, the certain accusations of being involved in murder.
And there's a lot of weird stuff about celebrities involved in Scientology, Tom Cruise for instance:
http://marriage.about.com/od/entertainmen1/p/tomcruise.htm

Here's an extract from Wiki:
The controversies involving the Church and its critics, some of them ongoing, include:

* Scientology's disconnection policy, in which members are encouraged to cut off all contact with friends or family members considered "antagonistic."[172]
* The death of a Scientologist Lisa McPherson while in the care of the Church. (Robert Minton sponsored the multi-million dollar law suit against Scientology for the death of McPherson. On May 2004, McPherson's estate and the Church of Scientology reached a settlement that to this day has remained confidential).[173]
* Criminal activities committed on behalf of the Church or directed by Church officials (Operation Snow White, Operation Freakout)
* Conflicting statements about L. Ron Hubbard's life, in particular accounts of Hubbard discussing his intent to start a religion for profit, and of his service in the military.[22]
* Scientology's harassment and litigious actions against its critics encouraged by its Fair Game policy.[22]
* Attempts to legally force search engines such as Google and Yahoo to omit any webpages critical of Scientology from their search engines (and in Google's case, AdSense), or at least the first few search pages.[174]

Due to these allegations, a considerable amount of investigation has been aimed at the Church, by groups ranging from the media to governmental agencies.[125][166]

It'd be really cool if you guys look this up on Wikipedia.. I went through it.. and it has a rather impartial view on Scientology. Linky: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientology
