Well folks, here is my first fanfic written in prose. I'm not going to pretend it's well written, so don't feel bad about telling me it stinks :)
Naruto knew, even before he saw his face, that the man standing in front of him was his friend and rival, Uchiha Sasuke. The other, his arm disfigured and face scarred, stared back at him with hating, bloodred eyes.
"You don't give up, do you?" Sasuke chuckled. "All these long, war-torn years and you still entertain your dream of bringing me back to you village, to become WHAT? An average ANBU, just like my father, and his father, until finally--"
"It is not to return you to Konoha that I meet you now," Naruto interrupted, staring at the dying snake that lay between them. "Not to return you to Konoha, but to kill you!" He looked up, and his fierve scowl turned away Sasuke's stare.
"I can no longer call you 'friend', Uchiha Sasuke," he continued, his voice trembling with anger. "Not after what you've done!"
Idly kicking a stone, the Uchiha chuckled again. "So now, you're refering to my latest activity... I actually did you a favor. Imagine the trouble Konoha would have gone through under the leadership of a second 'Legendary Sucker'."
"She loved you!" yelled Naruto. His face was now livid with rage. "I loved you! How could you ever have become this, Sasuke? You said your life ambition was to kill your brother... now you stoop to murdering your own friends?!"
"I told you, I have severed all ties-- you think I would have changed after all these years?"
Sasuke suddenly became aware of a noise behind him. Turning, he saw three of Naruto's clones, holding among them a rasenshuriken.
"You'll have changed by the time I'm through with you!" one of them yelled, jumping toward him.
Sasuke remembered back on the day he and Naruto had been assigned to the same team. He had beaten and tied Naruto, when suddenly several clones had jumped on him. Ever since that day, his teammate had never ceased to surprise him with his forbidden kage bushin jutsu.
All this flashed through Sasuke's mind in an instant, and he was aware of the same panic he had felt back on that day, when, as a child, Naruto had proved superior to him. Sasuke put up his disfigured right arm, knowing he was too late to dodge the powerful jutsu.
The rasenshuriken hit his arm, but he killed the clone before it was able to penetrate to his chest. Turning, as if expecting the other ninja's next move, Sasuke caught Naruto as he lunged with a kunai.
The two great fighters, both lauded as unparalleled in the field of battle, grappled now like the brats they had been 10 years ago.
Exhibiting unhuman strength, Sasuke bodily lifted Naruto and pinned him against the cave wall.
"As you see, old comrade, I've discovered true power. My quarrel with my brother was only one step of many to becoming what I am now, the most powerful Shinobi alive!"
Leaning forward, Sasuke pushed Naruto through the wall, which crumbled around them as if it were dust. To his dismay, however, the spiky-haired man in front of him disappeared in a cloud of smoke. Glancing around quickly, Sasuke saw his enemy standing not far way from him.
"You sacrificed those important to you... not for revenge... but for power?!" As Naruto spoke these words, his eyes seemed to grow more sinister, his teeth larger, his hands into ugly talons. For the first time in years, he awakened the lethal chakra sealed within him. "I'll kill you, Uchiha!" the words echoed from the cave walls.
