People's first name...does it make a difference in their life?

Not sure if this is the right place for this, and if it isn't, well please move it ot the correct place.

I had a discussion today about people naming their kids, and whether or not it makes a difference in their life. Whether or not their names make them more successful in life, or not. Does it even make a difference?

I will give a few, real life examples.

1.) Dad names two sons, their names are : 1. Winner 2. Loser. Winner became quite the criminal and "unsuccessful" in life, while Loser became a moderately successful human being, graduating from college, and making a decent living as a middle class american citizen.

2.) A women names her child "Shithead"(Please don't get me in trouble for usin the word) and of course pronounces it in a very urban way, making sound different. The kid was made fun of, and eventually had a so called "unsuccessful" life.

3.) A women names her daughter "Temptress" and the child at age 15 was bringing grown men in to her home, and pleasing them. Resulting in a pregnancy at around age 15 for this child, and a fatherless, unloved baby.

My conclusion is that the names don't usually matter. The names only show what the parent is like. For example, in story number one, the women was obviously a moron for naming her child that, and was not a good parent. I don't think the actual name itself has much of anything to do with how they turn out.

    Any thoughts?

This was the topic on the Tyra Show today. I think it can, in some ways.

Nice stories but they are just stories. Nobody knows the true result of naming your children like that. And you also forgot the most unpredictable factor. The character of the child. So they might get affected by there strange names but every person according to the character it has will react differently to that.
It is something that can never be proven because of the difference between humans.

^ this is true. But I think it can be seen a little deeper then what he put. He might not mean your actual name, but think of a kid who is called by his parents a 'Mistake' or a 'loser'. Or a girl who is called 'fat' or 'ugly'. Those kinds of names can really influence people.

I suppose it could. Like a kid with a really stupid name is more likely to made fun off, thus lower self confidence. But I suppose is does depend on the kid.
