    Leningrad/Stalingrad/St. Petersburg

    Excuse me global knowledgeble posters.

    I have a question.

As I am a sophomore in High School and we are now studying the Cold War and it's aftermaths. I have seen that St. Peters burg formally Stalingrad which was formally Leningrad has had it's name changed many times as described in the previous part of the sentence.. Now, here in 2009, what is this 'Grad town called now?

I thought Stalingrad was a completely different town that became something else?

But then again, I skimmed through my AP Euro book.

I'm pretty sure Stalingrad is called Volgograd now.

but maybe only we know it by that name, since english people don't know how to pronounce that correctly

Hitler wasted alot of lives when he tried to take Stalingrad durring WW2; becasue of the important battle many Russians want the name to be changed back.

Yeah, that's it. I knew it began with a V, but I couldn't recall the exact name.

    yeah it's actually really simple.

it's called Volgograd cuz of river Volga (it's the longest river in Europe).
