First off, yo need to put the cut off more than five pages. If I was considering joining a forum I would look at all sorts of pages. The members list, user pages, sections threads rules and I would make numerous mistakes navigating it. Also if it stopped me from viewing more pages I might get confused, assume there is something wrong with the site and just leave.
Furthermore, can you think of any sites that actually implement this kind of system. It sounds ridiculous to me. If a site said I had viewed to many pages and I either had to make an account or leave I would say screw the site leave because Im not giving it my email or any other information about me. It raises a red flag and I think will end up sending more people leaving then actually joining. |

No offense but you'd have to be pretty stupid to get confused as to why there's a big page that shows up after you've browsed X amount of pages that says to view more sign up. Am I the only one here that thinks this is common sense?

I have said my points. You have listened to them and reject them as I have listened to your points and rejected them. If you have more I will read them carefully and reevaluate my position. My only suggestion to you Eric is to take it up with Rodney. If Anything like that is ever gonna fly it will need to go through iEntry first and I have a strong feeling that he will not like what you are asking for.

I'd definitely like to see this get hammered out so everyone is happy before I present it to anyone so all parties are happy...otherwise it would be a total waste to even bother presenting this.

Eric, it is a waste of time.
Havent you noticed? I have. I was like you, always making threads to help increase member activity or any other problem the forum had that needed to be fix. Whatever you say, they'll never consider it. Chances of your idea being sucessful are very slim. Rodney or whoever is in charge of this site, says he's working on update. 1 year has past and he hasn't updated anything. This site isnt going ANYWHERE as long as Rodney and iEntry are in charge of TN.

Posting threads and discussing inactivity does nothing to promote activity. I think the site is doing fine and I see no reason why limiting the number of pages a guest can view would do any good. I would rather people join when they want to post not join when they want to read. If they join to read it will do nothing but inflate our member count. Sure it looks good but it does nothing to help the forum.
And before you all start bashing iEntry, you need to know 3 things. 1. They are the ones that maintain and provide the servers that make this place possible. 2. They have kept TN free to all by putting a minimal amount of advertising. 3. The reason iEntry staff has not been around lately is because the majority of their staff has been out with the flu or H1N1 (swine flu) virus. |

I think it would be better to instead move the Anime subsection to be a section, so it is more visible to guests. Maybe put it just under the regular discussion of Anime/Manga, and call it "Watch Anime" instead? Even if it stayed as its own subsection, I believe that would be a better suiting title. Then make a thread in the part that is viewable by guests that has the names of all the anime. It is already set up so that guests can't access the areas threads with the actual links. Let them know what they are missing. Otherwise, they won't want to risk wasting time, or just plain think we don't have anything and it's just some confusing discussion section. It would also be in the better interest to rename the thread titled, "Massive amounts of links broken." I think it would be better to attach a "FIXED" at the end, or turn it into a thread where people report broken links. Either way, a rename to prevent people to think the problem still exists. By simply shining up that gem of an area we have, I feel it would draw more people. Although I don't think we're in trouble with member numbers, I do feel those steps should be taken anyway.

I think having guests isint necessarily a bad thing. A page limit would just completely turn off whoever finds the sight IMO.
I suggested an AMV sub-section. . They seem to generate people and be pretty popular on other sites. I think it would be a bigger hit than the sig section. But no one in charge of the sight who can make this happen has contacted me ![]()

I agree that limiting access will not make people want to join TN. TN has nothing exciting about it that makes a vistor want to join. There is about 3-5 threads a week that get serious discussion and threads that take people 3 days to even post in. Now to your points RW. 1. That is true. Without there server TN will be lost in cyberspace until they either sell it or decide to put it back up. So TN needs iEntry. 2. They have to keep TN free. Who would join or pay to visit a site, when there are 100s more just like it. No matter how much i love a site i will never pay, when i can just pack my bags and go else where, and i bet thats the same for everyone here. Plus they have to keep it free so that they get the clicks they need so that they can keep those ads you speak of. So theyre not doing us a favor on this part. 3. Come on now RW. they havent had the flu for a whole year, so i dont buy that. TN wont get updates cause iEntry doesnt want to update. TN gets the clicks they need and thats all that matters. Im a Admin of a vbulletin and to install a chat box, a couple of skins, arcade, and a new software took me nothing but an hour and a half. So its not as much work as you think it is. So iEntry could have been updated TN along time ago |
